Building Nacimientos, a Christmas Tradition

SUNDAY, JANUARY 2, 2005
SELF GUIDED TOUR 12:00 PM TO 4:00 PM

Recreating the place where Jesus Christ was born, (Nativity Scenes or Nacimientos) is a Catholic tradition practiced during the Christmas season. Today many residents of Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles spend countless hours transforming their front porches and yards into nacimientos. Many nacimientos reflect the creative talents of the builders, this enhances the eastside landscape during the Christmas Season.

Nacimientos are built after December 12th, the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. They remain until January 6th, the Feast of the Epiphany, when the three kings arrive to the scene.

The Rare Times, Latino Urban Forum and the Los Angeles County Bike Coalition (LACBC) are joining efforts to host an East Los Angeles Nacimiento Tour & Exhibit. The tour concludes on Sunday, January 2, 2005, where guests will visit local nacimientos.

You can sign up to have your publicly displayed nacimiento be part of the exhibit. Participants can submit a picture of their nativity scene to be placed on the online exhibit. For more information, please send an email to info@theraretimes.com.
