Topaz Street / Amber Place
1 / 2 / 3

The residents of Amber Place and Topaz Street celebrate Posadas every year during the Christmas season. Posadas are
re-enactments of the night Jesus Christ was born. They consist of prayer, song and celebration. A procession led by people
carrying a Nativity Scene stops at several houses where verses are exchanged in a song. Mary and Joseph ask for a place
to rest. They are turned down repeatedly until they reach the host house. They are welcomed and the procession enters
the home. There is a short prayer service follows and children are invited to break a piñata. Guests are treated to pan dulce, pozole,
and hot drinks like coffee, chocolate and champurrado. Over 200 people attend the Posadas on Amber Place.

The tour was created by contributors to The Rare Times and members of Latino Urban Forum (LUF), Ray Gutierrez, Stephen and Maribel Legaspi, and James T. Rojas,
and The Legaspi Company.
